The apostolic nunciature, located in Tbilisi, is the diplomatic mission of the Holy See responsible for bilateral relations with the State of Georgia and the State of the Republic of Armenia. It is headed by an apostolic nuncio (nuncio) who has the rank of Ambassador, according to international convention and an ecclesiastic dignity of archbishop in the catholic church. The nuncio is de iure the dean of the diplomatic corps accredited to Georgia.
The nuncio serves as the liaison between the Holy See and the State of accreditation to advance bilateral relations, international cooperation, dignity of the human person and Christian values. The nuncio is the permanent papal representative to the Armenian Apostolic Church and to the Georgian Orthodox Church. The office serves as a liaison with the Catholic church present in the region in three rites, Armenian, Syrian Chaldean and Latin.
